Building in Public #1

Aizat Rahim · CEO & Co-Founder, Borong

A lot of people have told me I should share more about what's actually happening at Borong since I'm quite blunt to sugarcoat things, which apparently makes it more useful to read. So this year, I'm going to try the building-in-public trend. No highlight reel, just the real thing. So, here goes:

2025 looked great from the outside, growing, 150+ team members with good press, but internally, we knew we'd hit a ceiling, so we made a hard call to pivot. We moved beyond FMCG and went deep into eProcurement across oil and gas, aviation, and property.

The shift wasn't clean, but it was right. We now have exclusivity with Shell & many other businesses for eProcurement across Malaysia.

We're not just a marketplace anymore. We're building an ecosystem. The part I'm most proud of: at our growth-era peak, we were burning over $600K+ a month, and now, we just closed Q1 2026 with EBITDA positive. Took a while and cost a lot (mental, physical & honestly a lot of shit), but we got there.

Entrepreneurship is never easy, and nobody talks about the hard parts enough. I'm going to try to change that :)
